Slide 1: I chose to include Rachel Whiteread's work because of her attention to negative space and her large scale castings

Slide 2: I'm drawn to the work of Chiharu Shiota because she creates large scale installations that force the viewer to navigate the physical space they are in. 

Slide 3: Catherine Burgess uses industrial material such as metals and steel and manipulates them in ways that they look warm and like handmade goods

Slide 4: To deviate from the first three examples and their large scale installations, Chris Millar works on an incredibly detailed, small scale to create tiny installations that captivate the viewer. 

Slide 5: My own work, an example of a plaster drapery I made. 

Slide 6: My own work again, an ensemble of wooden shelves to display pantry foods.

Project 3 Week 1

3D Printing Design Concepts       This project proved difficult to decide on concepts for because I have no attachment or familiarity with 3D printing. Once we had a demonstration, I recalled one of the artists from my inspiration presentation, Elvira Dayel, describing 3D printing as a medium similar to drawing. Through the demo I could really connect with her describing it that way. Coupled with our discussion in class, I'm going forward with this project considering the process of 3D printing to be the focus of this piece rather than the resulting printed object.     After our 3D printing demo and discussion in class, I've got a couple working ideas for a 3D print project. Project 2 Week 1

  Reverse Engineered Object Selections Our next project is to reverse engineer a preexisting object and 3D model it in Rhino. Using calipers, we will measure our objects and then input the data into our built models. A requirement is that we choose a "mechanical" object that has at least one moving part or components that fit together. Below are my three choices for a "mechanical" object to 3D model. Metronome     My first object is a metronome. I think the body of this object would be easy to model, and it's made out of an aesthetically pleasing material to render. The internal mechanical components would probably be straight forward to model due to the fact that they are made out of basic shapes. However, this object can't be completely taken apart, and so getting exact measurements might prove to be challenging.      Grigri device and Caribiner     This object is actually more of a mechanical system than a singular object. Milestone Projects

 Milestone Project Review Architecture Façade     This first assignment is a little funny to look back on, considering all of the new Rhino skills I've gained since then. It is easy to critique it and think of all the different ways I would go about building it now. However, for a first exploration into Rhino software I'm still satisfied with it.    Laser Cut     This laser cut project was one of my favorites projects from this class. I really enjoyed exploring the relationship between "home goods" or sentimental objects and the industrial process of laser cutting and engraving. As well, it was interesting to explore the limitations of machines in our modern society.       If I were to return to this project, I would continue with the theme of chaos vs control, but I would source a laser cutter that could actually complete the cut jobs.  Organic Object Model     This assignment was an interesting take on reverse engineering an object.
